Well, not bling exactly, but something I’ve wanted for a loooong time. Finally decided it was time! I’ve spent and lost a lot more money on cars and car related things, which buys great experiences and memories. But this is one of the few things that can be handed down from generation to generation and maintain both sentimental and monetary value.

I normally don’t like Rolex watches but this is a very nice, classic piece. There’s something very nice about having an automatic, mechanical watch these days. I can’t imagine myself ever wearing one of those new “smartwatches” that are connected to your phone and probably need to be charged every evening.

I was happy to buy an automatic Tissot (since it had no complications apart from the date and Roman numeral markers) a few years back and it’s easily my favourite watch, but I’m still not in a position where I can drop money on something that will last generations.

Congratulations on the purchase!

Congrats! I’ve had a GMT Master II for 29 years. I’ve worn it almost exclusively day & night. Incredibly well built - a true tool watch. I travel a decent amount internationally and the functionality can’t be beat. I’m sure you’ve figured it out, but there are some really unique ways to use the 24 hr hand and combine it with the bezel. Also great for doing ‘time-math’ when interacting with folks in other time zones (and I mean more than the 3 that span the US!).

Thanks! I think the GMT, like the Sub, is just a timeless and classic design. I like how Rolex doesn’t change the design much, just quietly updates materials and components. I’m also amazed at how well they manage the brand - your 29 year old GMT is nearly identical to the new ones, and might be worth more than a new one!

There are few things that a truly timeless and a Rolex is one of them. Needless to say I am covet thy neighbors Rolex GMT. Nice choice.

Thanks! And I agree with you on the mechanical piece. A smart watch has some utility, but like a new cell phone, it will be worthless in a few years. A mechanical watch is timeless.

Tissot is a nice watch, post some pictures!

I do love the Milgauss too. Something about the quiet design and green shaded crystal.

That’s a beautiful watch. I never really liked the style of Rolexs, but the engineering and material science that goes into them is truly impressive. I’m sure your grandkids will fight over it.

Absolutely true that the value holds. That’s why I bought one on my last trip to NYC — I mean $50 for a Rolax was a deal I just couldn’t pass up.

Kinja seems to fail every time I upload or even try to link an image, but in any case:

That's my exact watch, a Tissot Le Locle automatic, it's about 40mm case diameter so it's the perfect size for my wrist.

Very nice! My collection is modest right now, a few Fossils and thats about it. One day.

Though, my favorite watch currently is my Fossil mechanical automatic. So cool to watch the insides and never worry about batteries.

I have an Invicta automatic, that is cheap enough that I can wear it anywhere without worry. It’s actually a pretty good watch and never needs a battery!
